Interarchives // In this collaborative project Manon van Kouswijk and Suska Mackert negotiate their private ‘archives’ in order to address a mutual installation and its site. Approached as an event their work unfolds in time and space. Van Kouswijk and Mackert’s involvement with the process of collecting and storing is not a technical one, but a practice prior to categorization.
Van Kouswijk collects everyday objects and works them out to activate their available range of associative meanings, which derives from their particular context or use.
Mackert, in her turn, has been collecting images of public persona and texts from mass media. She uses them as tools to question social representations and their links with productive systems of value, power and prestige.
By juxtaposing, texts, sculptural objects, prints, audio and video materials, these two artists re-present each other's archive through the filter of their own one. Furthermore, this interplay at times eclipses their 'signature' as a distinctive sign of identity. // Hercules Goulart Martins
